Meet Claudia

It is with great pride that I welcome you to A New Way of Becoming Counseling Services LLC. Reaching out for support takes both insight and courage. This is a sign of strength! Life can change in a heartbeat. Whether it’s a diagnosis of a serious, chronic or life-threatening illness, loss and grief, stress or a difficult life transition, the emotional pain is very real and common. Anxiety, depression, loneliness, unexpressed anger, numbness and a web of other difficult and intense emotions generally follow. I am particularly motivated about working with breast cancer and heart attack survivors who may also face body image issues. Regardless of the reason that brings you to this site, I am compassionate about empowering you to share your unique story.
I am here to give you skills and psycho-education so you have the ability to choose how you respond in healthy ways regardless of your circumstances. You come to counseling with strengths. Together, we can identify those strengths to build resiliency while you work towards meeting your goals. There is hope to reclaim and redefine your life.
I offer a unique perspective on emotional and physical healing. I am a recent survivor of bilateral breast cancer and a multiple heart survivor. My breast cancer left me flat. My cardiac disease required open heart surgery that left me with a six inch scar down the middle of my chest. I have worked hard to find beauty in my scars, so I know it is possible. My life journey includes another traumatic loss – the death of my younger (and only) sister to breast cancer at an early age. That, along with my own life-threatening medical issues, are the driving forces behind my practice. You are not alone on your journey!
If you are experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional distress, a recent diagnosis of a medical condition, suffering from loss, feeling stressed, or even want to boost your sports performance, please feel free to schedule a free, 15 minute consultation to determine if A New Way of Becoming Counseling Services LLC is a good fit for you. Please know that I also work as a counselor at a nearby Native American hospital and clinic Monday – Thursday.
I hold a Masters in Counseling and a Bachelors in Broadcast Journalism. My career ranges from a radio news reporter/anchor, newspaper sports editor, spokesperson for the American Red Cross (locally and at scenes of national natural disasters), enrollment manager serving doctoral candidates at a traditional campus, crisis counselor, and behavioral health counselor in health care settings, and volunteer with the American Heart Association Go Red for Women Movement. I received 3,200 hours of supervised clinical experience to become a Licensed Professional Counselor through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.
Warmly,
Claudia
